New to crystal singing bowls? You are in the right place. You do not need musical training, and you do not need to know anything about sound healing. Here are the basics, in plain, easy to understand language.
What is an alchemy bowl?
A Crystal Tones® alchemy crystal singing bowl is made from pure quartz, mined in North Carolina and made in Utah. The quartz is fired at three to four thousand degrees and fused with precious metals, minerals and crystals. Those additions are what give each bowl its color and its particular voice. The metals used in making the bowls help with higher frequency resonance. Gold, platinum, and palladium are the most common metals. An iridescent surface means platinum. A shiny metallic layer means palladium. A bowl that names no metal on its label still has gold in it.
What makes Crystal Tones® alchemy bowls different
Every bowl we sell here is a genuine Crystal Tones® alchemy bowl. Each one arrives with a serial number, an authentication code, a hologram, and a Bowl Registry certificate. The white, frosted Crystal bowls you see sold online and elsewhere are a different product they are made in a different temperature, heavier so harder to nest , and usually you need to play two at the same time to get the music combining vs the Alchemy bowls they sing for a longer time that gives you the opportunity to relax and enjoy the harmony instead of working so hard. Crystal Tones® alchemy bowls, on the other hand, will sing for minutes after contact has stopped. They are truly exquisite and remarkable.
Words you will see
Note. The letter on the label. Each bowl sings one note on 440 Hertz Scale.
Cents. The plus or minus number you see listed after the note. It shows how close the bowl sits to a true tone version of that note. A minus sign indicates how many tonal steps below the true tone the bowl is, and a plus sign indicates how many steps above. The closer the number is to zero, the closer the bowl is to a true tone.
Octave on the tuner not the label. The number after the note, like C3 or C4, with C3 having a lower sound than C4. Both are the note C, one octave apart. The octave number tells you how low or high the tone of that note sits.
Size. Measured in inches across the top. Six to twelve inches is the common range, up to eighteen inches in Supergrade bowls.
Alchemy. The crystals and metals fused into the quartz, named on the label. Advanced alchemy. More than one crystal combined in a single bowl. It means more ingredients, not automatically a higher price.
O-ring. The soft ring the bowl rests on while you play it.
Mallet or wand. The suede covered stick you strike the bowl with and play around the rim.
Reading a bowl label
A label like 8" E+15 Larimar, Rose Quartz, Platinum is telling you the size, the note, the cents, or how close that note sits to true, and what crystals and metals are fused into the quartz.
Frequency. Every bowl sings at its own frequency, and no two are quite the same. That pitch comes from the bowl's size, thickness, and shape, and it does not change. The frequency is determined using a tuning tool.
Cents. To give a frequency a name, you measure it against a reference tuning. The standard is 440 Hz, used for nearly every instrument in the world, and it is what all of our labels are measured against. You may see bowls elsewhere described as 432 Hz or 528 Hz. Those are the same kind of bowls named against a different reference. The bowl itself is no different, only the ruler used to measure it. The plus or minus number is how far the bowl sits from a perfect version of that note. C+5 means five cents above a true C. Closer to zero is closer to true. Cents increase or decrease by fives, so you will see 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and so on. When the number reaches 55, the bowl is simply named as the next note instead. Cents matter most when you add a second and third bowl. Bowls whose numbers sit close together, usually within about a 15 cent spread, blend easily. Bowls far apart can wobble against each other. Do not worry if you cannot figure out whether a bowl will sing well with another bowl. We will help you find the match that makes your set a perfect set.
Octave. The number after the note tells you how low or high that note sits. The higher the number, the higher the pitch. A C3 is a full octave below a C4, and a C4 is a full octave below a C5. They are all the same note, just at different heights, which is part of why they sound so beautiful when played together. Lower numbers are deeper and generally more grounding. Higher numbers are lighter and generally more activating. Larger bowls tend toward the lower octaves, but not always. Thickness and shape matter as much as width, so two bowls of the same size can sit an octave apart. We stock every octave.
Notes and the body
Natural notes, C through B, are associated with the seven chakras, C at the root through B at the crown.
Sharps are associated with the glands and are marked with the # symbol. C# is associated with the reproductive system. D# with the adrenals, kidneys, and digestion. F# with the thymus gland, the higher heart, and the breath. G# with the thyroid, the ears, and speech. A# with the pineal gland, the head, and the eyes.
A note on this. This is how the tradition describes the bowls, and it is a helpful way to choose one. People play them for relaxation, calm, focus, and sleep. Nothing here is medical treatment or a substitute for care from your doctor.
Why three bowls
One bowl is a single tone, but three bowls make music. Three is the smallest number of bowls that will make musical phrasing you can actually play. Most people who start with one bowl come back within a week or two to add more.
How to choose
First you need to consider if it's for you or if you're going to play it for other people. Start with the bowl you are drawn to. Not the note you think you need, not the size, not something a chart told you to buy. Go with the color, the sound, or both. That pull is real information and it is where every good set begins.

How you play one
Rest the bowl on its o-ring. Hold the wand loosely, the way you would hold a pencil but towards the top of the mallet (maybe insert a picture). Move the wand slowly around the outside of the rim, letting the motion come from your wrist. Too much pressure and the bowl goes quiet. Occasionally you will need to strike the side gently to start the tone.
What to expect when you buy
● Prices are firm, but payment plans are offered. Payments can be split into four.
● No sales tax on out of state orders.
● Cases are strongly recommended and are sold separately.
● Training is included free with a set of at least three bowls, an $1,800 value. This holds on a payment plan as well.
● All sales are final. Exchanges are welcome within one week.
